Laptop Disk Usage Stuck at 100%
A Windows laptop can show 100% disk active time even when the transfer rate looks small. On a mechanical drive, many tiny requests can consume all of its available response time.

Check the context
Updates, antivirus scans, indexing, low RAM, or a failing drive can all contribute. Note whether the reading persists after startup settles and whether the computer freezes while loading files. Save important data if you also see errors, clicking, or disappearing storage.
When an SSD helps
If the drive is a healthy, older HDD and storage responsiveness is the main issue, an SSD often handles these requests far better. A $99 starting labor upgrade includes cloning of a readable drive. If Windows or the drive is corrupt, cloning may reproduce the trouble or fail; we review that before proceeding.
Include a screenshot of Task Manager’s Performance and Processes views if you can, along with your exact laptop model. A persistent high reading is a clue, not proof that replacing the drive is the only fix.
