Back Up Before Shipping a Laptop for Repair

Cloning can move a readable drive to an SSD, but it is not a substitute for a separate backup. Shipping, hardware failure, and unexpected file-system problems are reasons to preserve important files first.

What to save

Copy documents, photos, project files, and any local email or app data that would be hard to replace. Confirm the backup opens from an external drive or trusted cloud account. Note passwords, recovery keys, and software installers you may need later; do not email us your account passwords.

What if the drive is already failing?

Repeated copying may strain an unstable drive. If it clicks, disappears, or holds irreplaceable data without a backup, stop and consider specialist recovery before an ordinary SSD upgrade. Our $99 standard service includes cloning only when the source is readable; it does not guarantee recovery from a failing drive.

After the repair, keep a regular backup routine. No single laptop or replacement SSD should be the only location for files that matter.
